Vimal Patel a student of industrial design, born and raised in New Zealand. Created an awesome 3D printer out of legos and a hot glue gun.
According to Vimal, it started with a university project he was working on with his accomplices. They were provided with biodegradable 3D printing filament which is the material that a 3D printer uses to make 3D objects and were asked to create something with it. Their goal was to make something recyclable with solely this material.
After experimenting with their university’s inexpensive UP 3D printers. He learned that to accomplish his goal he would need to “extrude material along a path in multiple axes with a robotic arm.” So Vimal found a much simpler way. That was when he decided to build an extruder by using Legos and attached it to a hot glue gun. The result? An awesome handheld 3D printer. Here are a few of his finished products.
